Young performers needed for Annie Get Your Gun production at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre

Youngsters with a flair for performing arts are being invited to audition for a new festive musical with a twist at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre.

Producers are looking for ‘strong singers and dancers’ to appear in their whip cracking’ Christmas musical Annie Get Your Gun, which runs from Thursday, December 8, to Saturday, January 14.

A spokesperson for Sheffield Theatres said: “Producers are looking for strong singers and dancers who can confidently handle dialogue in an American accent, to take on the roles of Annie Oakley’s sisters Jessie, aged 14, Nellie aged 12, and 10-year-old brother Jake.

“Those auditioning do not need to be the exact age of their character but will have to have reached their 9th birthday by Monday, September 5.

“Two performers will be cast for each role which will be performed on a rota basis.”

To secure an audition place, all performers must pre-register their interest by visiting the Sheffield Theatres website www.sheffieldtheatres.co.uk and completing a registration form before 2pm on Thursday, September 15.

The first auditions will take place at the Lyceum Theatre on Friday, September 16, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, where participants will be taught a simple song and be asked to work on an extract from the script.

Recall sessions will take place on Saturday, September 17, from 10am to 4pm at the Lyceum Theatre.

Written by Irving Berlin, Annie Get Your Gun is directed by Paul Foster and choreographed by Alistair David, with musical direction by Paul Herbert. Classic songs to feature include There’s No Business Like Show Business, Anything You Can Do and I Got The Sun In The Morning And The Moon At Night.
