Young music stars to help old Sheffield band celebrate 135th anniversary

Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Charlie Green, aged 18, who shot to fame when he appeared on the TV show as an 11-year-old vocalist in 2008 will appear on stage with 16-year-old BBC Young Musician of The Year finalist, Isobel Daws, who plays the trombone.

They will appear Sheffield Citadel Salvation Army Band’s anniversary concert at the Salvation Army Hall in Psalter Lane on Saturday, February 27.

The band is made up of volunteer musicians who help share the Christian message by performing at events across the city.

Members include teachers, draughtsmen, business owners, head teachers, former steelworkers and students.

Bandmaster Keith Wileman said: “Throughout the band’s history the musicians have maintained their commitment to going to the community to bring hope - from monthly open-air meetings to concerts around the city to helping other charities fundraise as well as visiting hospices and the children’s hospital to provide cheer and comfort to those staying there. The band provides so much more than music – its volunteer members are a source of support and friendship to many.

“We are looking forward to the Young Stars in Concert event - both Charlie and Isobel are excellent musicians and we know the concert will be a fantastic evening of music, as well as a great way to start our anniversary celebrations.”
