Young man killed in scooter crash in Barnsley

A man, aged 26, has died after a collision in Barnsley.

He was riding a silver Gilera scooter along Vernon Road, Worsbrough, when it left the road and crashed into a wall close to the junction with High Ridge.

CRIME: Investigations launched into eight murders in South Yorkshire so far this year
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 8.10pm yesterday and a police investigation is now under way.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "The man riding the bike was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

"There were a number of cars in the area at the time of the collision and police are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or who saw the manner of driving prior to the collision."
