A YOUNG woman killed in a crash which left her mum fighting for life has been named.

Melissa Bladen, aged 18, from Great Houghton, Barnsley, was the passenger in a Renault Clio which collided head-on with a lorry on Wednesday morning after veering on to the wrong side of the road.

She was trapped in the car but suffered multiple fatal injuries.

Her 45-year-old mum, who was driving the car on Moor Lane, Brierley, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where she is detained.

Police investigating the collision want to hear from witnesses or anyone who saw the Clio or the lorry involved beforehand.
