A young motorcyclist died after riding through a pool of hydraulic liquid and hitting a lamp post, an inquest heard.

Nathaniel Taylor, 25, crashed on Newbold Road, Chesterfield, at about 10.20am last Thursday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His inquest opened at Chesterfield coroners’ court this morning.

Speaking at the hearing, PC Deanna Hyde, of Derbyshire police, said: “He had just dropped his girlfriend off at work and was going back home to Tapton.

“He overtook a vehicle and got back on the correct side of the carriageway.

“He went through a pool of hydraulic liquid, lost traction with his vehicle and became separated from it having struck a lamp post.”

Coroner James Newman said his office was still awaiting post-mortem results to ascertain the cause of Mr Taylor’s death and a police file.

He adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.

The air ambulance was called to the scene of the crash.

Part of Newbold Road was closed for several hours at its junctions with Bowness Road and Keswick Drive.

Witnesses to the collision should call Derbyshire police on 101.
