Yorkshire and Derbyshire League: Lewis Hobbs stars with bat and ball as Civil Service beat high-flying Hollinsend

In the Yorkshire & Derbyshire Cricket League Division One, high-flying Hollinsend Methodists' bowling attack conceded 230-9 at Sheffield Civil Service (L Hobbs 67* H Younis 57 R Wadsworth 4-44) and at 130-7, looked doomed to heavy defeat as Lewis Hobbs completed as fine game, taking 5-59 to rip out the middle order.

However, the tail wagged vigorously but Hollinsend Methodists ran out of wickets, falling all out for 218 (J Commander 51).

De La Salle’s quiet climb of the table continues, slipping above Hollinsend Methodists to second. They made 161 at Hathersage, who were 28-6 at one stage, before recovering to 121 all out (M Rodgers 47no S Willey 4-27).

Sheffield Collegiate VP totalled 223-5 (Ash 84 Foster 57), then tumbled out Totley Sports for just 65. Sheffield University Staff were shot out for a mere 64 by champions Parkhead, who cantered to the win by eight wickets (J Carrington 48*).

Parkhead are now up to fourth spot, in hot pursuit of table topping Holmesfield. They hit 189-8 (T Outram 68*) and dismissed Stocksbridge for 109 (D Ward 4-34 J Pearson 4-30). Now we are just over a third of the way through the season, Hathersage and Stocksbridge are in danger of slipping off the pace at the foot of the table whilst at the top, Holmesfield are hotly pursued by De La Salle, Parkhead and Hollinsend Methodists.

When top Division Two team TRS dismissed struggling Totley Bent for just 135, there was no hint of the upset to come. Bowlers Z Ali (5-24) and A Hussain (5-21) combined to devastating effect to rout TRS for 50. This allowed Sheffield Centralians the chance to go top. They made 228 (Denning 90) and then bowled out Ashford in the Water for 148 (Ellis 74 Barnes 4-28).

Hallam III were sent back for just 100 (I Davey 6-38), Calver recording a much need win by three wickets (Graham 4-36). Sheffield Medics made 183-9 (A Urs 50), Hollinsend Meths II replying with 125 all out (S Rajebhosale 5-33). Struggling Parkhead II were all out for 151 (J Naylor 4-27), and Hundall kept up the pressure at the top of the table with a six wicket win (M Kibble 46).
