During the afternoon the temperature in Sheffield reached a balmy 33C (91.4F).

The hottest temperature recorded anywhere in the UK yesterday was 35.1C in Wisley in Surrey.

Today temperatures will reach a maximum of 26C in Sheffield and there will be a risk of thunderstorms for much of the day.

And it will feel even fresher into the weekend with a mixture of sunshine and showers on Saturday and Sunday and highs of 21C

That theme will continue into the early part of next week but by the end of the week things are expected to warm up again.
