AN AWARD-WINNING author was meeting Sheffield students today – and presenting them with prizes.

Bali Rai, who has written a number of novels for young adults, was spending the day at Longley Park Sixth Form College in Fir Vale.

He was also due to lead creative writing workshops as well as a presentation about encouraging reading and writing and issues around multi-culturalism, ethnicity, citizenship and politics.

Media students were also given the opportunity to interview and photograph the Leicester author for an article in a college publication.

He was due to present the winners of the college’s creative competition – which this year saw students produce pieces of work to represent their favourite place.

The winning pieces were a poem by Rabia Khan, Jamie-Leigh Graham with a set of photographs on the theme and Peshawa Ghaffur, who produced a film.
