Worthy uses for surplus funding

SURPLUS funding from a Sheffield Council community assembly is being used to build a youth shelter in a park and establish a bursary fund to help people take part in adult education classes.

The South Community Assembly approved £7,000 for the shelter to be built in Herdings Park, £7,500 for the bursary fund, and allocated the remaining £1,342 as ‘contingency’ funding.

The £15,842 surplus, left from the assembly’s £292,000 budget for 2011/12 to be spent on projects in its area, which covers Beauchief and Greenhill, Graves Park, Gleadless Valley and Nether Edge.

Groups in its area can apply by November 23 for grants of up to £1,000 for projects to improve residents’ wellbeing.
