World War One medals go for thousands at auction

A collection of five world war medals, belonging to a Seargeant Franks, sold for over £7,000 at Sheffield Auction Gallery recently.

George Franks was born in Rotherham in 1893 and a handwritten letter, written by his commanding Officer, Lieut Fitzherbert, to inform his sister of his death, was sold along with the medals, which included a Distinguished Conduct Medal, a Military Medal with bar, a 1914 star, War Medal and Victory medal.
