Workplace equality leap is recognised

The local authority jumped 50 places in the acclaimed Workforce Equality Index.

This year saw the highest number of submissions to the index, with over 400 organisations taking part.

Staff were asked about attitudes to workplace culture, diversity and inclusion in an anonymous survey.

Sheffield Council made into the top 10 per cent, and the 6th highest achieving local authority in the country.

Coun Mazher Iqbal, cabinet member for public health and equality, said: “We are obviously very pleased that it’s recognised how important it is for us to have place of work that is equal.

“We find it a useful exercise to be benchmarked against some of the biggest and wealthiest businesses in the country and we will continue to support our employees and put strategies in place to make sure we continue to improve what we do and how we are doing it.”

Over 60,000 staff took part in the anonymous survey, making it one of the largest national employment surveys to take place in Britain.
