Work starts on centres

WORK has started on two new state-of-the-art health centres in Barnsley which will cost £13 million.

The one-stop ‘super surgeries’ in Cudworth and Grimethorpe will give residents access to GPs, health care and social services under one roof.

Three ‘Local Improvement Finance Trust centres’ have already opened in Worsbrough, Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe. The two new centres are scheduled to open next year.

The centres - known as LIFT centres - have been made possible by a partnership between Barnsley Primary Care Trust, the council, and Barnsley Community Solutions for Primary Care.

Sean Rayner, director of modernisation and business development at Barnsley PCT, said: “We aim to improve choice and access to services.”
