Housing & Care 21, an organisation which has already successfully delivered three other similar schemes in Doncaster, will work in partnership with the council to deliver this development.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “Doncaster, along with every other local authority, needs to meet the challenge to provide suitable accommodation for our increasing aging population. I am delighted to see work start on this much needed development which not only provides affordable accommodation, but also care and support for those who will be living there.”

Siobhan Moore, Head of Property Development for Housing & Care 21 said: “We are delighted that construction work has now started on this really exciting project. Everyone working on the scheme will be committed to protecting Peel Hill Motte during the development work, and longer term, incorporating it within the landscaping around the site. Extra care housing enables residents to enjoy independent living along with 24 hour on-site care and support, tailored to individual needs.”

Communal facilities will include a café bistro, communal lounge, hairdressing salon, guest suite, assisted bathroom and landscaped gardens.

Martin Smithurst, regional managing director for Keepmoat, said: “We are looking forward to continuing our long-standing partnership with both Doncaster Council and Housing & Care 21 to create these high quality new homes in Thorne.

“This development has been carefully designed to integrate seamlessly within its surroundings and complement the wider regeneration which is taking place in Doncaster.

“As always, we are committed to offering employment and training opportunities for local people wherever possible throughout the duration of the build.”

Doncaster Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Jane Nightingale, added: “There are remarkable levels of housebuilding taking place across the borough and this scheme is just one element of our commitment to providing good quality housing which covers the needs and wants of all people.”

Work on the development is expected to complete in Autumn 2018 and anticipate new residents moving in before Christmas 2018.
