FIRE crews were last night still damping down at the site of a major fire on the edge of a Doncaster village.
The blaze in a massive pile of timber on the Bankwood Lane industrial estate, Rossington, took about 24 hours to extinguish.
It broke out at around 3.50am on Thursday at the premises of Northern Wood Recycling and at one time 20 firefighters were tackling it.
They managed to prevent flames whipped up by strong winds from spreading to a nearby storage building.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said officers would not be able to investigate the cause until the site was completely safe to approach.
