Woods: "Sparring partner as good as challenger" - VIDEO

CLINTON WOODS says he has been sparring with an opponent every bit as good as Saturday's world title challenger, Julio Gonzalez.

He has been in the ring with Australian based cruiserweight Gareth Hogg, as well as Rotherham fighter Neil Dawson.

Hogg, a 29-year-old from Sydney, Australia, was a particular handful.

And he landed enough blows to decorate the Sheffield champ's face.

"Gareth Hogg is one tough cookie, he has been out in Australia sparring with a few light heavyweight contenders of mine, and I have a lot of respect for him. He has good moves and a good punch.

"People who watched him said he was better than Gonzalez. But nothing prepares you for the night" said Woods.

"I always get damaged in sparring, I had a few bruises round my eyes but you have got to remember not really sparred properly... I haven't fought since last September, so it took me a while to get back into it.

"I did have a few knocks bruises and twisted ears!"

Woods is completing his final preparations to defend against Mexican Julio Gonzalez on Saturday, at Sheffield Arena. (Tickets: 01142 565656 or 01142 560550)
