Woodland party row

RESIDENTS kept awake late into the night by dance music blaring from a party in Sheffield woodland have slammed the police's response to their complaints.

South Yorkshire Police say they received a number of calls from people living near Greno Woods, in Grenoside, concerning the party, which residents say lasted from 10pm on Saturday until 7am the next day.

Tina Edwards, police call handling manager at South Yorkshire Police, said officers were aware of the event and had been informed that there was an organised charity event taking place there that night.

She said they attended on one occasion but found no evidence of public disorder which would have required them to stay on site. And because of the high number of emergency calls they received that night, they were unable to return to the area.

One man, who did not want to be named, said the music only stopped when he drove out to the location at 7am on Sunday and asked them to turn it off.

He said: “They went and turned it straight off because I was standing there. If the police had done that it would have been resolved hours earlier. I think it was appalling.”
