Women of Steel, friends, family, and the people of Sheffield, to share their wartime memories.
They are being invited to an event on Wednesday between 2pm and 4pm at Sheffield Town Hall, which will be attended by artist Martin Jennings, who has been commissioned to create a figurative memorial in recognition of the women.
Coun Julie Dore, Sheffield Council leader, said: “We have been working with the women to make a permanent memorial a reality. This is a project that is important to the whole city.
“The event is designed to help Martin to get a feel of what the people of Sheffield want. We’d like as many people as possible to get involved, share memories, bring along items from the time and help shape the statue.”
Anyone who can not attend on Wednesday is urged to email firstname.lastname@example.org or write to Andrew Skelton, Public Art Officer, Sheffield City Council, Howden House, 1 Union Street, Sheffield, S1 2SH. The council is also seeking donations towards the memorial - make a contribution at www.justgiving.com/womenofsteel.
