A YOUNG woman may have been left with permanent damage to her sight after being caught up in a Doncaster nightclub attack.
Her eye socket was fractured during the melee and she is still suffering the effects a month after the sickening incident, which has shocked the management of the town centre premises where it occurred.
Doncaster police are today appealing for a woman who witnessed the assault on the dance floor to come forward
It happened on Sunday, May 20, at approximately 2am, when a 23-year-old Armthorpe woman and her friend were in Walkabout on Priory Walk.
They were walking back in to the bar from the smoking area outside the premises when a fight started between two men on the edge of the dance floor.
Walkabout doormen intervened and ejected the two men.
But the 23-year-old is believed to have been punched in the face during the incident.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said she sustained a fractured eye socket and blurred vision, which may never improve.
She also suffers numbness in her face.
“An unknown woman helped the 23-year-old and witnessed the incident, however her details were not taken and police would urge her to please come forward and contact the police.”
Walkabout spokesman Matt De Leon said afterwards: “We were shocked to hear about this young lady’s injuries and on behalf of all of us at the bar, hope she makes a full recovery.
“Walkabout has a comprehensive zero tolerance policy towards violence and we will not tolerate abuse, threats or physical attacks on customers.
“We will do whatever is necessary to help the police investigate and urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the police immediately.”
n If anyone witnessed the incident they are asked to call the police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 726 of 20/05/2012.
