The shopper, who has declined to be named, was preparing food from an online delivery when she spotted the beige and brown spider crawling through the red grapes.

She said: “At first I thought it was dead but after taking photos, I nudged the tub of grapes a bit and it started moving so I quickly chucked the tub of grapes including the spider into a carrier bag tied a knot in it and took it straight to the black dustbin outside.

"I wasn’t sure with them being imported from Spain what type it was or if it was harmless or not,” she added.

"The spider itself didn’t appear to be very big but was mainly beige and brown with a black part on the top part near its head.

"The size roughly was about 2-3cm in length but I didn’t hang about to measure it or take a closer look as there might have been eggs and with Asda importing fruit from different countries it could have been any type.”

The woman, who lives in Conisbrough, was in the middle of making packed lunches for her children when she spotted the spider inside the plastic punnet.

She said: “I was in the middle of making my children’s packed lunch boxes up and my hand was in the tub of grapes as I was cleaning and slicing them.

"My reaction was fear as didn’t know what sort it was coming where they have come from and I had to get it out of my house just in case.

She says she contacted Asda’s customer services department by telephone to complain, but says she has not had a response.

"Unfortunately with me being scared, it’s been in the bin since Sunday and with Asda not getting back to me I had to put my bin out for collection it’s now gone with the rubbish. I didn’t know what else to do.”

We have contacted Asda for comment.
