Sergeant Steven Askham, who is investigating the incident, said the car involved - a dark Saab 93 estate - was left with a badly damaged windscreen.

The vehicle was seized and officers now want to hear from anyone who saw the car before or after the collision, which happened at 7.30pm on Monday, October 24.

"Marie and her partner were pedestrians on Barrowfield Road, where Marie was in a collision with a Saab 93 estate, which failed to stop at the scene," he said.

"It has since been located by the police and recovered.

"We are very keen to speak to anyone who saw the car in the Goldthorpe area before or after the collision. I'm interested in the movements of that vehicle.

"I believe that members of the community hold information that is key to this investigation.

"It may only be a small detail to them but it could be what we need to piece this together.

"I'm more interested in their information than their name."

A 36-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident 1,110 of October 24 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting Operation Humid.
