Later that day at about 2pm, Walton was seen shouting racial abuse at a man and woman in a car in Wellgate.

PCSOs were called to the incident and Walton was arrested shortly afterwards.

PC Christopher Nicholson, Hate Crime Coordinator for Operation Solar, a Rotherham initiative set up as a dedicated way to report hate crime, said: “Any kind of hate crime will not be tolerated and I hope that this sentence sends out a clear message that anyone found to be committing any kind of hate crime will be dealt with.

“We want to give people the confidence to come forward and report any incidents to us. We will listen and we will act on it."
