Woman injured in U-turn smash

A MOTORIST was seriously injured when her car was struck by a minibus carrying out a U-turn on a South Yorkshire road.

The 47-year-old woman, from Rotherham, was travelling along the A616 from the Tankersley roundabout towards the motorway when a white Mercedes minibus driver pulled out of a layby and attempted to perform a U-turn to head back towards the Tankersley roundabout.

The woman, who was driving a Peugeot 206, suffered serious ankle and chest injuries and was taken to the Northern General Hospital and detained.

The driver of the minibus, a 49-year-old man from Koln, Germany, was not hurt.

Witnesses to the incident at 6.50pm on Monday should call police on 101 incident 1,021 of November 26.
