Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was dragged along by a car driver in Doncaster.

At around 3.15pm on Saturday, April 13, the 32-year-old woman was walking along Oak Road towards the traffic lights at the junction with Wath Road in Mexborough.

As she reached the lights, a man in small black hatchback, who was queuing at the lights, pulled her towards the window of the car.

The driver then accelerated while still holding the woman.

She was dragged along Wath Road before he let go and she fell to the road.

The woman sustained bruising and grazing to her body.

She is described as white, with shoulder length brown hair and about 5’ 7” tall. She was wearing black jeans and a pink and white coat, with a grey fleece underneath and was wearing white trainers.

Investigating Officer PC Julie Fretwell said: “This was a busy junction on a Saturday afternoon, so I would have thought someone in the area at the time would have seen something.

“Fortunately the woman was not seriously injured, but this incident could have been much worse.

“This incident doesn’t appear to be a random act.”

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or have any information about it to please call 101 quoting incident number 786 of 13 April.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
