Woman in her 40s dies after being hit by a train in Chesterfield

A spokesman for British Transport Police confirmed that officers were called out to reports that a woman had been struck by a train at about 9pm.

She said that ambulances attended but the woman died at the scene.

The woman’s next-of-kin have been informed and her death is not being treated as suspicious.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.

East Midlands Trains tweeted last night that services were disrupted between Chesterfield and Sheffield following the incident but they were restored a couple of hours later.
