Woman has head stamped on before stolen car is stopped following 20-minute police chase through Sheffield

Police officers from Derbyshire and South Yorkshire teamed up to arrest two suspected car thieves following a chase through the two areas.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said it spotted a stolen Audi A3 near the border with South Yorkshire in the early hours of this morning.

A spokesman said a chase followed and two people were arrested, including one on suspicion of assault after a woman had her head stamped on.

The police helicopter was also involved in the pursuit.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said the blue Audi was reportedly stolen last month and officers gave chase in the Lowedges area at around 4.25am.

Officers brought the vehicle to a stop on Nether Lane, Ecclesfield around 20 minutes later.

She added no-one was injured during the chase.
