A DONCASTER businesswoman suffered a terrifying ordeal when she was ambushed by masked thugs who robbed her of her takings.

The shocking incident occurred in broad daylight while the unnamed woman was sitting in her car in a traffic jam at one of Doncaster’s busiest road junctions.

It is believed the two robbers had lain in wait to target the woman because they knew she would have a substantial amount of cash in her vehicle.

They made their getaway in a stolen car which was later dumped a few miles away from the incident at York Bar.

It happened about 9.15am on Monday, July 18, when the 31-year-old woman was in her car on Barnsley Road, outside the Sun Inn, waiting to get on to York Road.

While she was stationary at the traffic lights, two men ran over to each side of her car and smashed the passenger and driver windows.

The man on the passenger side reached into the car and stole a substantial amount of money from the passenger footwell.

Both men were then seen to get into a green Honda Jazz car and drive off. The car was found abandoned on Pickburn Lane, Pickburn.

It had earlier been reported stolen from an address in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.

The first man was mixed race or black, with a round face and large lips, and wearing a skeleton mask that covered the top half of his face.

He was about 5ft 5ins tall and of a stocky build and aged between late 20s and early 30s. The second man was also mixed race or black and was wearing dark clothing.

Det Cons Michelle Thompson, of Doncaster CID, said: “We believe this is a targeted attack as the woman was on her way to the bank with the week’s takings from her shop.

“We believe the men may have been watching her or knew her plans and followed her. The woman is quite shaken and I would urge anyone with any information to please come forwards.”
