The incident left Chesterfield Road in Staveley completely blocked off by emergency services after the collision between a Citroën car and a Mercedes van shortly after noon.

A police spokesman said a female, who was driving one of the cars, had to be cut free from the vehicle.

The air ambulance then took her to the hospital.

The road continues to be closed, and police are advising a diversion through Middlecroft.
