Withdrawal of car park plans

CONTROVERSIAL plans to use a disused industrial site near Sheffield University as a temporary car park have been shelved.

Applicant Mehtab Asghar has withdrawn his application to Sheffield Council for the site off Northumberland Road, which is also close to the Royal Hallamshire, Charles Clifford, Weston Park and Jessop Wing hospitals.

Residents in the Northumberland Road and Harcourt Road area had objected due to the potential for extra traffic.

Broomhill Liberal Democrat councillor Shaffaq Mohammed said: “I think the developer has realised that locally there were a lot of concerns. I would like to see the site reused for family homes.”
