Wire firm’s golden party

A DONCASTER firm is marking its 50th anniversary by staging a charity open day at its factory, in aid of St John’s Hospice.

Entertainment for all ages will be provided - including a funfair and refreshments - at the public event which is being held at Optima International’s site in Askern Road, Toll Bar, on Friday, July 29, from noon to 5pm.

Chief executive Michael Spiller said: “Optima has survived a number of challenges over the past 50 years - from national strikes to flooding - and has continued to thrive with the help of its highly-skilled and loyal workforce.

“Many of our colleagues, families and friends have been cared for by St John’s and we wanted to recognise the work of all their dedicated staff.”

Optima, started as Wedge Wire Screens in 1961 by Mr Spiller’s father, Cliff, now exports across the world.
