After being set up, the pair decided to spend their first date at Paradise Island Adventure Golf in Sheffield, where things quickly teed off between them.

And two years later when John decided he wanted to pop the question- he knew there was only one place to do it.

The romantic Doncaster man organised a visit to the indoor miniature golf course at Centertainment with the couple’s family and friends, arranging with staff for Laura to find a ring box in golf hole number three.

When a gobsmacked Laura turned around, John was knelt down on one knee.

“I had no idea it was coming at all,” said 32-year-old Laura, of Rotherham.

“It was such an emotional moment and I started tearing up. John is always so thoughful and it’s exactly the kind of thing I thought he would do, but I was still blown away by his planning.

“My family are usually rubbish at keeping secrets, so I’m impressed they all managed to keep it quiet!”

Laura says she knew John was ‘the one’ from that very first date.

“We played two rounds of golf and had exactly the same score by the end of it,” she laughed.

“It was the perfect place to get to know one another as we could have fun and not take ourselves too seriously.”

John relied on the precise timing of Paradise Island general manager Kelly L’Anson to make his plan work, giving her the responsibility of slipping the diamond ring into the golf hole at exactly the right moment.

Kelly said: “John called me a week before to ask if we could help set up the proposal and he was very specific that it had to be hole number three, as it’s Laura’s lucky number.

“When they were on the second hole, I pretended to be cleaning and managed to discreetly place the ring box in hole number three, then I had to make sure that no one else tried to play the hole! It was brilliant - Laura was so surprised and everyone was clapping.

“We’d like to congratulate Laura and John and we’re thrilled we could be a part of such a special moment.”

Laura and John, aged 39, have already started looking for a venue for their dream wedding - a country getaway in the Peak District is at the top of their wish-list.

They’ve also picked a wedding date of August 19 2017, also Laura’s parents’ wedding anniversary.

“We’re really excited about the wedding and are having great fun planning,” said Laura.
