Rebecca Staden, Herd of Sheffield project manager, said: “We believe there is something for everyone – we can’t wait to see how much money they raise for the hospital.”
The Children's Hospital have estimated that each elephant should raise around £1,500 for charity - with some of the most popular sculptures going for much more.
The charity are encouraging people to dig deep and bid generously to fund a Multipurpose Fluoroscopy System – a lifesaving piece of equipment which is used to obtain real-time moving X-rays. This new equipment will enable highly skilled radiologists to diagnose and provide treatment which in turn will give patients the best possible chance of a full and healthy life.
Online, proxy and telephone bidding will all be available for people who cannot make it to the Crucible tonight.
Live audio and video feeds will allow people to bid at the auction from anywhere in the world, from their computers, mobiles or tablets.
Tickets, priced £25 subject to booking fees, are available online or by calling the Crucible Box Office.
