Will SheffieldEagles legend Menzie Yere be bidding goodbye forever on Sunday?

Sheffield Eagles are preparing for their final game of 2018 on Sunday, but the question remains whether it will be a final outing for one of their modern day greats.

Veteran centre Menzie Yere is one of a clutch of out of contract performers with their future yet to be confirmed, with director Mark Aston stating Sunday's meeting with Rochdale could be his last in the red and gold.

Whilst Aston wants to keep the PNG ace involved, he acknowledged that it would be a reduced role which would have to suit all parties.

'Who knows with Menzie,' Aston said. 'At the end of the day he is certainly not a centre anymore. Has he got a year left? He might think he has, do I? Well, he's struggling and his body is starting to tell him now. We'd like to think that he will get his residency and stays in Sheffield which will see him get something outside rugby, but also something that allows him to stay involved. We'd like him to train and do the things he needs to do so if we need him he can play.'

Eagles are looking to sign off a difficult campaign with a win against a Hornets side that desperately need a result in their fight against relegation.

If this was to be Yere's final game, then the affectionately named '˜Jukebox' will want to go out with a bang. But Aston says he still sees a role for the fans' favourite in the Steel City next season.

'Do we want to keep Menzie around the place though? Yes, very much so,' he added.

'He has been a legend for this club. We need to acknowledge that and keep him around.

'Again, if it is his last game, let's get people behind him and give him the royal send-off that he deserves. I am not saying it will be his last. We'll see.

'He hasn't said it will be his last game to me, but his body is trying to tell him something now.

'If we can have everything we all want, which is his residency - and he's on with that - then I am sure he'll be involved.'
