Wife raises over £5,000 for Sheffield brain charity

Lynne Pannett, aged 69, from Grenoside, has worked as the Neurocare Trading Managerfor almost 30 years, and has sold many items, from branded T-Shirts to cuddly toys, books, jewellery and gifts, to make money.

She applied for the job after wanting to give something back to the charity who helped her husband, Derek, when he was treated for a brain aneurysm when he was 19 -years-old.

Lynne said: “Derek had suffered with violent headaches for a week and then collapsed. He was in a coma for three days.

“He was operated on which was successful, however developed epilepsy years after which thankfully is now controlled with medication.

Lynne’s role involves buying products and selling them, along with managing 14 volunteers who help on the trollies, which are based on B-floor at Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Over the years, she has generated more than £500,000 with all profits going to Neurocare.

Lynne added: “I’ve met lots of amazing people along the way.

“I love every single aspect of the job, especially meeting the patients and supporters. I have made so many friends, a special one being Adrienne Nixon who used to be a patient. She buys products from the trolley and donates regularly to Neurocare.

“Our suppliers are great too, especially Ian at Best Sellers Direct who donates books regularly. The books alone have helped raise tens of thousands over the last ten years.

“Not forgetting the staff on the neurosciences wards, which are a great source of support but more importantly amazing at their jobs, saving lives on a daily basis

“People ask me when I’m going to retire, but as long as I stay well and healthy enough I want to carry on.”
