Wickersley in final defeat

WICKERSLEY failed to keep Heavy Woollen Cup interest in this area when they went down down by 65 runs to Wrenthorpe in yesterday's final at Hanging Heaton.

Bidding to become the first club from the South Yorkshire League to win it - and hopefully follow up Yorkshire League club Barnsley’s successes of the past two years - Wickersley were always up against it.

Wrenthorpe, from the Central Yorkshire League and backed by a wealthy benefactor, amassed a daunting 282-4 with opener Eric Austin unbeaten on 101.
