This is why Sheffield trams are busier than normal tonight

Tram passengers heading towards Hillsborough have been warned of a busy service due to a big student football game.

Students from both Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield University are going head to head in football tonight in the annual varsity games.

It kicks off at 7:45pm this evening at Hillsborough Stadium.

As a result, Stagecoach Supertram have issued warnings that services on the Blue and Yellow lines will be much busier than normal.

They said: “We advise customers to allow extra journey time where possible.”

Sheffield Varsity is an annual tournament where students from rival universities compete in various sports over a number of weeks.

This year is the 22 year of the competition and the finale will take place at Ice Sheffield next Wednesday where the winning university will be crowned.
