Why Jos Luhukay has faith in his Sheffield Wednesday players to fight back

Jos Luhukay is confident that Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough double-header this week can bring about a change in fortunes for the Owls.

Luhukay’s side conceded four goals for the second league game in succession on Saturday, with blistering Bristol City sweeping away the meek Wednesday challenge at Ashton Gate.

Now the Owls have the opportunity to quickly put behind them the desperately poor performance on Saturday, with Ipswich Town heading to Hillsborough on Tuesday night.

Fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers travel to South Yorkshire at the weekend for what will be a crucial clash for both teams.

Luhukay admitted the performance and result against Lee Johnson’s side was hugely disappointing but the Dutchman has faith that his team can turn things around this week.

“OK, the result (at Bristol City) we cannot change that,” he said.

“What we can do is change and be better and maybe in three days we can do better and you can forget very fast what happened. We have the chance to make a new feeling.”

He added: “It is not easy to win games in the Championship. We have always a chance to win the next game, it is obviously difficult after losing but in three days it can be different.

“It is a complex situation. We have played a lot of games quickly so it’s not easy for all my players to put in a good performance every game.

“We see before that they always try 100%. We haven’t had easy games but I think we can be better than today as we have seen before. That is my hope, I believe in my team and my players so we must give all we have on Tuesday.”

Wednesday will monitor Daniel Pudil before the match with Ipswich. The defender suffered an ankle injury on Saturday.
