The World Student Games took place in 1991 and there would have been an estimate of costs and a budget, including a projected repayment period.
Anyone buying a property privately in the same year would probably have had a 25-year repayment mortgage and, with a reasonably good income over the years, would now be looking forward to paying off the debt and interest in about two years.
What a contrast with the council, who appear to have rescheduled the debt, maybe more than once, incurring higher interest costs and a longer repayment period.
To add fuel to the fire, although maybe for good reasons, they are now threatening to close one of the major venues, with debts still hanging over the council tax payers. Why does the council not act responsibly with our money?
