Ash Baker missed Wales' Under-21s win over Switzerland

It is believed Baker was not involved in the clash at Rodney Parade last night due to an ankle injury.

Baker, capped four times at U21 level, could be a doubt for the Owls' televised meeting with Middlesbrough this Friday.

As for the Young Dragons, they ended their qualifying campaign on a positive note, recording a 3-1 victory.

Rob Page's side struck twice in three first-half minutes through Joseff Morrell and Connor Evans to take command of the tie.

Andi Zeqiri reduced the deficit with 15 minutes to go but Evans bagged his second to wrap up maximum points for Wales, who finished fourth in Group 8, behind winners Romania, Portugal and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Page has lost a number of influential players to Ryan Giggs' senior squad since the U21s' qualification campaign kicked off in September 2017, including Tyler Roberts, David Brooks, George Thomas, Harry Wilson, Chris Mepham, Matthew Smith, Joe Rodon and Daniel James.

Page said: "It's [the campaign] given a lot of the younger lads in the group experience of playing at this level.

"Half the team are eligible to play in the next campaign so there's a lot of positives there.

"Robbie Burton tonight... it was his first start and I was really impressed with him - he controlled the tempo of the game, getting on the ball and being brave on the ball and it bodes well for Welsh youth football."

Meanwhile, Owls loanee Josh Onomah played 72 minutes of England Under-21s 2-0 triumph at Scotland. Reiss Nelson and Kieran Dowell scored to ensure Aidy Boothroyd's team finished their Euro qualifying campaign unbeaten.
