That's the view of manager Jos Luhukay as the affable Dutchman seeks to turn the Owls into genuine promotion candidates.

Hutchinson was mainly utilised in the midfield anchor role under ex-Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal.

But the former Chelsea youngster, who missed the bulk of last season due to injury, is also a proven option at centre-half.

The Owls are short of experience and cover at the heart of their defence, having released Glenn Loovens at the end of last season and failing in their attempts to resign Frederico Venancio.

"I'm very happy Sam is in good physical shape," Luhukay told The Star. "He has given 100 per cent in the last three weeks or so in training.

"I know what I have with Sam. He can play as a central midfielder or as a central defender. He's a flexible player and will help us I'm sure."

Hutchinson came through the first half of Friday's pre-season friendly victory at Lincoln City unscathed.

Luhukay said: "Sam helps the team 100 per cent.

"The question will be physical. We want to bring him in a very good situation for the start of the new season.

"How he has worked in the last three and a bit weeks and what I've seen him from him has been really good."
