Who benefits from spending?

Have your say

TWO Sheffield Labour MPs have called for a study to show who benefits from public expenditure in the city as part of the council’s Fairness Commission initiative.

Clive Betts, Sheffield South East MP, and David Blunkett, Brightside and Hillsborough MP, say there are ‘lots of myths about public expenditure and who benefits’.

They said: “Academic studies have consistently shown there is a high degree of correlation between council tax paid by households and the benefits received from council expenditure.

“We suggested the council and other partners should always try to consider the impact of any service changes, including any proposed changes in benefits and charges, not just on individuals and households but also on particular communities and areas.”
