The restaurant closed ahead of the coronavirus pandemic shutdown in March with an announcement via social media.

The Facebook post, written in March, said: “Sadly we closed yesterday after twenty eight years of our fabulous team making and serving top quality home made food under the leadership of the amazing Tracy Woods who worked here all that time.

“Thank you to all our customers and people over the years for making this a Doncaster institution

“See you again some day.”

The venue has been famed for many years for its genteel atmosphere and olde worlde afternoon teas, cakes and sandwiches, similar to the world famous Betty’s tea rooms in Harrogate and York.

Upset customers expressed their sadness at the closure, which came just days ahead of the nationwide shutdown of pubs, restaurants, cafes and other businesses because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pubs and restaurants across England were allowed to re-open their doors again nearly two weeks ago although some remain closed and Doncaster saw a slow start after trading restarted.
