We're all going on a summer holiday...to Rotherham

OH I do like to be beside the seaside...

But forget Skegness and Scarborough - head for Rotherham-by-the-Sea.

The town centre has been turned into a holiday at home – complete with sand, Punch and Judy, and deckchairs.

There is even the opportunity to ride the waves on a surf simulator - and have a game or two of seaside bingo.

Sand artists have been brought in to show off their skills and there is music with a summer flavour over the next two weeks.

On top of that visitors can catch up on the latest news, sport and entertainment on Rotherham’s town centre big screen.

Town Centre Manager Julie Roberts said: “When we first launched the event in 2002 we had no idea it would become so successful. Every year the feedback from visitors tells us that Rotherham-by-the-Sea is simply great fun.

“We’ve kept all the old favourites such as Punch and Judy and sand sculpture competitions but added some new activity, which we think we be really popular, especially with teenagers.”

More details about Rotherham-by-the-Sea are available from the nearby Rotherham Visitor Centre, which is open from 10am until 4.30pm Monday to Saturday.
