Welcome To The Future: Live video from The Star

Have your say

There have been many advances in how The Star has brought you the news in the past 127 years but tomorrow we move into an exciting new era which is about to change everything again.

Johannes Gutenberg, William Caxton, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison and John Logie Baird were all pioneers of the way we communicate .

Between them they invented, introduced or developed the printing press, telephone, audio recording and television.

Over the years those technological pioneers and their successors have helped to evolve The Star, with the public demanding more of us. We started out as a newspaper and today we are a multi-media publisher.

But tomorrow we take another giant leap as we broadcast our first ever live event.

When Sheffield indie band Reverend and the Makers take the spotlight around 6.30pm, on our Star Live intimate stage at the Winter Garden, they will also be helping us to make history.

It’s 89 years since Logie Baird successfully transmitted the first television picture - a shaky, black and white image of the head of a ventriloquist’s dummy nicknamed ‘Stooky Bill’.

We’re planning to do better than that, with Mercure St Paul’s Hotel providing us with their super fast broadband to upload our live images which should give you The Reverend Jon McClure and his band mates in high-definition.

We will bring you updates and you can join in the conversation on Twitter on Twitter @SheffieldStar, @GW1962 and @Reverend_Makers, plus The Star’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sheffieldstar. Use the hashtag #starliverev

Tell us what you want us to live video stream next. It’s the dawn of a new broadcasting era for The Star and we’re doing this for you.

Don’t forget, you will still be able to read all about it here in print in The Star on Monday.

So spread the word, tell all your family and friends to watch our first ever broadcast and be part of Reverend and the history makers.

WATCH LIVE: Here’s where you will be able to watch the Reverend and the Makers acoustic set live from Sheffield’s Winter Garden on Sunday, February 16, 6.30pm - CLICK HERE.

All this is possible thanks to The Star’s event sponsors and partners – venue owner Sheffield Council, neighbours Mercure St Paul’s Hotel and Spa, who are providing their super fast broadband connection and Darren Wain, technical director of Sheffield-based Stream7 Limited, who is helping us to broadcast the concert live on our website.

The concert and live stream is also being brought to you in association with The Star’s online listings and entertainments page www.wow247.co.uk.
