Welcome big freeze with new chiller van

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust has taken delivery of a new chiller van, thanks to wholesale fruit and vegetable merchant, GW Price.

GW Price’s managing director, John Plant, is a longtime supporter of the Trust and saw another opportunity to help when its old chiller van became unreliable recently.

John said: “Sarah Kerrigan, head of fundraising at Whirlow Hall Farm Trust, rang me to get some advice. I know how important a reliable chiller van is to the Trust and I offered to help. I agreed to provide the Trust with a fully maintained, modern chiller van so that they can make the most of everything that is grown on their farm. I know how much youngsters benefit from their time at the farm, so I’m absolutely delighted to help further.”

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is a unique environmental and educational charity, set up in Sheffield in 1979 by Alan Aikin, who was sent to the farm as an evacuee during the Second World War. He was so affected by his experience that, years later, he set up the centre so that all inner-city children could experience the countryside and develop their understanding of where their food comes from. The Trust now welcomes over 10,000 children a year.
