WEATHER WARNING: Strong winds to batter Sheffield causing 'loss of power' and travel chaos
Batten down the hatches- Sheffield is about to be battered by more gusty wind as the Met Office issues a weather warning for the city.
The yellow warning is set to come into force from 3pm today (Thursday, January 30) and will remain in place until 9pm this evening.
Forecasters have warned that ‘strong, gusty winds’ could lead to ‘travel disruption’ and even ‘short term loss of power’ for Sheffielders.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Some delays to road, rail and air transport are likely, especially affecting high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.”
On a brighter note it will feel milder than recent days, with temperatures peaking at a warmer 11 °C.
Expect thickening cloud and heavy rain tonight, though. Temperatures will also plummet to around 3°C.
Forecasters say winds will pick up again tomorrow (Friday, January 31), becoming ‘strong and gusty’, especially over the hills.
