Weather warning for more heavy rain issued for Sheffield

Just two weeks after floods caused chaos across South Yorkshire the area has been warned to brace for more very wet weather this weekend.

The Met Office has this morning issued a yellow warning for rain for much of northern England and with much of the gound already saturated further flooding is possible.

The warning is in force between 4am and midnight on Saturday with some persistent and heavy rain forecast.

As well as flooding to homes and businesses, public transport services could also be disrupted.

The warning states: “Following a spell of rain later on Friday, more persistent rain will arrive from the south early on Saturday morning and last through most of the day.

“The rain will be heavy at times, especially on hills. 15 to 25 mm is likely to fall quite widely, with 40 to 50 mm possible over high ground.

“The rain will slowly ease and then clear from the south on Saturday evening.”
