Summer might finally be here in Sheffield!

After three weeks of June marked by wind, scattered rain and chilly temperatures, forecasters say the UK is finally in for some balmy weather starting this Monday.

The British Isles will still be much cooler than parts of Europe, where the mercury will typically top 26C or even rise as high as 35C in cities like Madrid in Spain - but at least Sheffield can say it will be as warm as, say, Paris.

Here is the forecast for Sheffield next week and the Met Office’s opinion on whether summer is about to turn up at last.

Will it be sunny in Sheffield this weekend and when will it get warm?

The longest day of the year marked by the summer solstice is this Thursday, June 20 - and most Britons will agree summer hasn’t risen to the occasion so far.

However, the Met Office says starting this Friday (June 21), temperatures should start to rise ahead of a properly sunny Monday and Tuesday, and predictions it will get “much warmer than we have seen in recent weeks” all the way into July.

Friday, June 21, 2024: A bright and sunny start with patchy clouds arriving in the late afternoon before a cloudy evening. Highs of 22C but will “feel” 20C out, with little to no chance of rain.

Saturday, June 22, 2024: Another cloudy day with a slight dip in temperatures sadly, but hopefully the last for a while. Highs of 20C that will “feel” like 18C. Good chance of sunny spells through the clouds by the later afternoon and evening in time for Saturday night with a mild breeze. A clear night should give way to proper sunshine on Sunday.

Sunday, June 23, 2024: This may be the turning point before June turns sunny. The Met Office is predicting a clear and sunny day with a chance of cloud in the afternoon but temperatures overall rising to 22C and very little wind.

Monday, June 24, 2024: It’s a bit disappointing when the first warm and sunny day in weeks is on a Monday, but consider a sign of good things to come. Monday may just see the mercury rise to 24C with the help of strong sunshine all morning and well into the evening with little to no chance of rain.

Tuesday, June 25, 2024 and onwards: The warm weather continues with highs of 23C and sunshine throughout the day. The Met Office predicts a “large range of outcomes” from here and into July, the bulk of which will see it getting increasingly hot- but a sudden return to cooler conditions is always possible.
