THUNDERSTORMS: Sheffield braced for weekend of downpours after weather warnings

Sheffield is bracing itself for more thunderstorms, with weather warnings in place for the next four days.

There is a yellow warning in place from midnight this morning, Friday, August 14, until 12pm on Saturday, and another from midnight on Sunday morning until 9pm on Monday, August 17.

The Met Office says further heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected across much of England and may lead to some flooding or travel disruption.

Flash flooding, lightning strikes and large hail is possible, it warns, potentially creating hazardous driving conditions, causing bus and train delays and resulting in power cuts.

The forecast for Sheffield today looks promising, however, with clear skies and bright sunshine expected from around midday until the evening, with a high of 26C.

Temperatures are expected to drop to a maximum of 19C on Saturday and it is likely to remain cool on Sunday and Monday, with some rain forecast for both days.
