Snow falls in parts of Sheffield, with more expected overnight

Charlotte Anna shared this picture of snowflakes in Stocksbridge, which she captured at around 2pm today, Thursday, January 7.

While it failed to settle there this afternoon, the Met Office’s latest forecast suggests Sheffield could be in for a decent dusting during the next 24 hours.

It says there is at least a 50 per cent chance of snow or sleet every hour tomorrow between 2am and 3pm, except for 2pm, with a minimum temperature of -3C.

A yellow warning of snow and ice is in place from 5pm today until 11.59pm on Friday, with people urged to take care in the slippery conditions.

The Met’s forecast for Yorkshire and Humber says that after some clear spells today another band of rain, sleet and snow is due to move southwards, with ‘slight accumulations’ likely.

Tomorrow will feel ‘bitterly cold’ again, it says, but things will gradually get drier and brighter.
