Sheffield weekend weather forecast: Heavy showers to settle down in time for Mother’s Day and winds continuing

There’s a mix of all weather types hitting the city today as the heavy downpours earlier in the week continue combined with gusts of wind and even patches of snow at times.

Wind speeds will reach a top speed of 19mph this afternoon but will begin to fall at 6pm. The top wind speed tonight is likely to be 14mph.

The precipitation will settle around 3pm before continuing again later on in the evening around 10pm with heavy showers forecast.

The changeable and windy weather will continue across Sheffield this weekend according to the Met Office with highs of eight degrees Celsius and heavy rain throughout Friday and Saturday.

As we head into Sunday the weather won’t be quite as chaotic with fewer showers forecast just in time for Mother’s Day when many people might be looking to go out on walks with the family.

However, the windy weather is set to remain throughout the weekend with gusts reaching as high as 41 mph, blowing in from the West.

Friday: Windy with sunny spells and blustery showers, these often heavy with a chance of hail and thunder. The showers will be wintry over high ground, and also most frequent this morning, becoming more isolated later. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Friday night: Isolated showers and clear spells initially, but cloudier conditions with outbreaks of of rain will quickly arrive, sometimes heavy, with snow over high ground. Windy for many places. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Saturday: Outbreaks of rain and hill snow soon clearing east. Then sunny spells and showers, sometimes heavy with perhaps hail and thunder, also wintry over high ground. Windy again. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: Sunday windy with outbreaks of rain and hill snow. Monday wind eases, with mainly coastal showers, some bright spells. Tuesday cloud and patchy rain clearing, then dry. Temperatures nearer normal.
